Today we are coaching with the ocean as our view. What is coaching, really, and where does the term come from?
The word “coach” (English) or “coache” (French) originates from the word for “carriage.” Coaching as a method is designed to help a person gain greater insight, awareness, and self-knowledge on the journey toward a desired destination. The client is meant to take the lead.
The coach—the “driver” of the carriage—contributes through questions, clarification of goals, and direction.
At Centerline, we see ourselves as guides in the client’s jungle of life. We set out on a journey of discovery in search of gold, encountering lion’s jaws, fire, and the monkeys of life along the way. Sometimes the journey lasts a couple of hours, while other journeys we are privileged to be part of over several years.
